Denver is home to hundreds of urban parks spread across thousands of acres, which means there is truly a perfect park for every resident of the Mile High City. And many green spaces and parks are ideal for seniors, with amenities like wheelchair friendly paths, enhanced accessibility, and lovely settings.
Denver Botanic Gardens
1007 York St, Denver, CO 80206
This 23-acre park located in the Cheesman Park neighborhood has a conservatory, theme garden, sunken amphitheater for summer concerts, and a massive collection of plant life to appreciate (including arid gardens that thrive in Colorado’s climate). The Gardens even offer a number of free days throughout the year.
Accessibility was an important consideration when the Gardens were created, and most of the indoor and outdoor gardens and facilities are easily walkable and wheelchair accessible. Visitors can also borrow a wheelchair for free on a first-come, first-served basis, available from the Information Desk in the Boettcher Memorial Center.
Alamo Placita Park
E 3rd Ave, Denver, CO 80218
You’ll find this 4.6 acre park north of Cherry Creek and Speer Boulevard, and it’s known for the stunning flower displays. The paved plaza has benches where you can sit and soak in the colors, scents, and sounds. There’s even an open lawn area with “a forest of flowering shrubs, maple, pine, and spruce” that makes for a wonderful picnic spot.
Denver City Park
Park boundaries are West-York Street, South-17th Avenue, East-Colorado Boulevard and North-23rd Avenue.
Despite its fame, Denver’s largest urban park deserves a spot on any list of best metro parks. Covering 330 acres, City Park has everything needed to enjoy a sunny Colorado day. The grounds are easily accessible to wheelchairs, and pathways and the lawns are regularly maintained.
City Park is also home to the Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, which are both worth visiting. No matter how you enjoy City Park with your loved one, this is a great spot to spend quality time together.

César Chávez Park is also a nice addition to other activities you and your loved one may be enjoying in the Berkeley/Highlands neighborhood. Argyle residents and their family members love to stroll the paved paths after a delicious meal on Tennyson Street.
As a local nonprofit, The Argyle has brought high quality and affordable care to Denver’s seniors since 1874. To this day, our caring team remains committed to encouraging independence and preserving the dignity of every resident who calls our community home.
